Gold Medal In 2nd South Asian Games - Archery

 Sehajbir Singh of IX Class student of Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar has brought great laurels for the school and the city by winning Gold Medal in Archery for India in Recurve Event  (U-16 Category) in 2nd South Asian Games organized by International Sports Development Board at Colombo (Sri Lanka)  from 24th to 27th August , 2018.

Police DAV Public School, is the only school in Jalandhar that provides coaching for Archery. It was introduced in the year 2007-2008 by Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij with the help of International Player Mrs Roopa Basak  and India Coach Mr. Jiwanjot Singh Sehajbir Singh started playing the game only one and half years back and in such a short time he has reached the status of an International player.  In the beginning he used to play in the Indian Round Event in which the bow is made up of bamboo & wood. In 2017, in DAV National Sports he bagged a gold medal cluster level and then a silver medal at zonal level in Indian round event. Then he competed in 7th National Field Archery Indoor Championship 2017 held at Pune in October 2017 and bagged a silver medal. He shifted to recurve event on advice of his coach Mr. Achin, after his participation in field Archery Mayor Cup National Tournament held at Mumbai in May 2018 where he could not perform well. With his dedicated and long practices, he  bagged a gold medal in 3rd National Inter State Sports Championship organized by Sports Development Board of India in the month of July 2018 at Dharmshala. On the basis of his excellent performance, he was selected to play in the second 2nd South Asian Games organized by International Sports Development Board at Colombo (Sri Lanka).  
Sehjbir Singh  and Neeraj Singh, another student of class IX are going to participate in 6th PKS UniSZA Open Archery Tournament 2018 from 26th to 30thSeptember, 2018 at UniSZA (Gong Badak Campus) Kuala Terengganu. Terengganu, Malaysia.
It is a proud achievement for the Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij and the archery coaches Mrs.Rupa Basak and Mr. Achin. The Principal recently provided coaching to Archers of the school at Punjabi University, Patiala from Korean Coach who had been invited by the University and India  coach Mr. Surinder Singh. It was a great learning experience as per the coach Mr. Achin and it will help them a lot in training the archers for future competitions.
