World Book Day falls on 23rd April every year and reiterates the immense significance of books in our lives. It is celebrated in remembrance of great authors like Shakespeare and Cervantes. The Day was celebrated by the Readers’ Club of Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar Cantt in the presence of Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij.
On this occasion, the Readers’ Club stressed on the immeasurable value of books through a short play and told that books, whether new or old, are deep sources of knowledge.
All must delve deep into the deep springs of knowledge hidden in books. Students presented themselves as a library and also as books like encyclopedia, dictionary, vedas, epics and encouraged all to read them to gain wider perspective on numerous things.
Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij motivated the students to read books instead of wasting time on social media and said that the basic mantra of success in life is to immerse oneself in the unfathomable depths of books. She encouraged children to make it a habit that will last a lifetime.
A reading activity was also carried out in all sectors. Principal, teachers and students devoted time to reading in an endeavour to cultivate the habit of reading.
This activity was coordinated by the incharges of the Readers’ Club Mr Manoj Dutta, Ms Jaspreet Boparai, Ms Preeti Khehra, Ms Kanchan Sharma, Mr Ajay Veer Singh, Neetu Vaid and Mr Kuljit Singh.
