The inaugural ceremony of MUN (Model United Nation) – Chapter Six was held at Police DAV Public School, PAP Campus, Jalandhar Cantt. The aim of the three-days MUN is to discuss issues of global relevance under various committees to reach a resolution. Mr. Suresh Kumar, IAS (Retd.) who is Chief Principal Secretary, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and was welcomed by Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij. Coordinators of PDAVMUN- Mr Balwinder Singh, Mr Manoj Dutta and Ms Seema Sharma were also present on the occasion.
The programme started with the lighting of lamp to seek divine blessings. Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij in her address welcomed all the guests and explained how participation in MUN can greatly help in increasing awareness, confidence, public speaking, leadership skills and critical thinking and shape young minds. Principals of other schools and supervisors of Police DAV- Mr Rajkumar, Ms Urvashi and Ms Anju Sehgal were also present on the occasion. The welcome song and Saraswati Vandana by the students mesmerized the audience. The school orchestra team presented a Jugalbandi with a blend of western and Indian instruments. The utility and purpose of Model United Nation was demonstrated through choreography. On this occasion, the chief guest gave detailed information about the working of the United Nations and talked about peace and positive solutions to world issues. He explained to the students that whatever work they do, they should always follow ethics.
The chief guest signed a globe. On this occasion, Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij and PDAV MUN coordinators were also present with him. The opening video of MUN showcased the preparations made by the organizing committee of MUN and various executive committee members were introduced.
The chief guest was given a memento by Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij.
The opening speech of this programme was given by Secretary General Krish. He declared the conference open.
The baton was handed over to this year’s Secretary General Krish by Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij and the chief guest.
Over the next two days, during MUN, 9 committees – UNGA, UNHSP, UNCSW, UNHRC, AIPPM, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Marvel vs DC, UNSC, International Press – will discuss and debate on various global issues.
The stage coordination was done by Ms Preeti Khaira, Ms Jaspreet Boparai and students Sakshya and Aastha.
Around 600 students aged 14 to 19 years from schools in and around Jalandhar are participating in PDAVMUN.
