Abhijay of Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar won accolades at the international level and was honoured by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi. The Earth Science Olympiad 2022 was organised this year in a virtual mode from Aosta Valley, Italy from August 25 to 31, 2022. In this international competition, 38 countries participated, represented by eight students from each country.
– *Abhijay Singh Khehra* from Jalandhar, Punjab ,represented Team India . He is the only student from Punjab who has ever won accolades at this level. Not only this he made Punjab and India proud by bringing One gold and one silver medal .
Under The National Team Field Investigation (NTFI)
Project, Abhijay worked for the Project Title: ‘Physicochemical Variations of Soils from Northwestern and Eastern India’, where the team consisting of three others got the *Gold medal* .
Under Earth Science Project (ESP) with International students of Italy ,France ,Portugal, Spain ,Mecedonia ,
Abhijay Singh Khehra bagged the *Silver medal*.
Because of all the above achievements, *Abhijay Singh khehra along with his team was invited at Ministry of Earth Sciences ,New Delhi* on 16 Sept 2022,for felicitations.
Abhijay Singh khehra and his team members were felicitated by Dr. M Ravi Chandran, Secretary ,Ministry of Earth Sciences , Professor H. K . Gupta , President , Geological Society of India, Dr Mithila Verma ,Observor IESO , scientist at Ministry of Earth sciences and Mr Jagbir Singh , scientist ‘F’ .
The mentors of IESO were Dr Hema Achyuthan, Anna University, Chennai and Dr KS Godhavari, GSI, Bengaluru and Prof R Bhaskar from IGNOU, New Delhi , Observer.
This programme was funded by The Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi and organised by the Geological Society of India, Bengaluru as an outreach programme for school students.
In IESO 2022, Team India won four gold, four silver and six bronze medals in the tests.
Team India of eight was chosen after two stages of rigorous screening. The first was an all-India entrance written test taken by close to 3,000 students across the country and the second selection was from a two-weeks training programme organised by GSI Bengaluru and conducted by renowned scientists.
Principal Dr Rashmi Vij applauded the exceptional achievements of Abhijay and expressed her immense pride and joy. The mentors who supported Abhijay and provided their guidance include Ms Seema, Mr Chandan and Mr Harkamal.
