JALANDHAR PREMIER LEAGUE

Jalandhar Premier League- a three-day chess tournament, was inaugurated today at Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar. The Chief Guest for the event was honourable Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar, Mr. Himanshu Aggarwal, IAS. He was accorded a floral welcome by Principal Dr. Rashmi Vij, accompanied by young artists who mesmerized the esteemed guest with their enthralling presentation of Punjabi folk dance and later a classical dance performance. The Chief Guest inaugurated the tournament by releasing multicolored balloons and lighting the ceremonial lamp. The supervisors along with sports coaches Mr Dinesh, Ms Dimpy Malik, Mr Rakesh and others were also present on the occasion.

This tournament is being organized by the District Olympic Association, Jalandhar, in collaboration with the District Red Cross.

A total of 220 boys and girls are participating in the competition in the Under-11 and Under-17 categories.

Addressing the players, Chief Guest Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that games like chess are extremely important for better mental development and enhancing concentration.
