SESSION ON COMMUNICATION STYLES AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION STRATEGIES

Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar organised a session on Communication Skills for Conflict Resolution under CBSE Counselling Hub School and Spoke School Model-2025 under the able leadership of Dr Mrs Rashmi Vij.

At the commencement of the session, Mindfulness was practised.

Communication styles significantly influence conflict, with passive, aggressive, and passive-aggressive styles often escalating tension, while an assertive style promotes resolution through clear, respectful communication. Mismatched styles can cause misunderstandings, and managing conflict effectively requires recognizing different patterns.

Communication styles in conflict include the following –

Passive: aims to avoid conflict by prioritizing others’ needs, often leading to indirect communication and suppressed feelings.

Aggressive: Focuses on “winning” by dominating conversations and forcefully expressing needs without considering others, which can cause resentment.

Passive-aggressive: Expresses anger and dissatisfaction indirectly through sarcasm or a mix of passive and aggressive behaviors.

Assertive: Strikes a balance by clearly and respectfully expressing thoughts, feelings, and needs while actively listening to others. This style is generally the most effective for conflict resolution.

The session was supervised by Mr Raj Kumar, Mrs Urvashi, coordinated by Mrs Divyajyoti, Mrs Preeti Khehra, Mr Manoj Dutta and Mrs Vani Sharma
